Midtown Skin Studio Acne Treatment

Midtown Skin Studio Acne Treatment

The majority of people get acne from time to time, and some are lucky to leave it behind in adolescence, but others deal with it well into adulthood. Thanks to advances in cosmetic technologies, you don’t have to suffer the pain and embarrassment of acne any longer.

Midtown offers acne treatment, which is an effective, painless way to treat both acne and the scars it can leave behind. By applying gentle microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to the skin, your face, back, chest or other areas of your body can be cleared of acne pustules without the application of harsh creams or ointments. In addition, the technology we use stops acne bacteria in its tracks. It not only destroys the bacteria that causes acne while ablating the skin tissue, but it also shrinks and eventually shuts down the oil glands that are found just below the surface of the skin making it so that the entire process that causes acne in the first place is halted before it even starts..

What is Acne?

Acne is the result of the excess production of sebum, an oil naturally created by the body to moisturize and protect the skin. Too much sebum, mixed with dirt and dead skin cells will lead to blocked pores. The pores become infected and inflamed, producing red pustules on the face, which we refer to as acne. Acne commonly appears on the face, back, neck, shoulders, chest, and buttocks. All types of acne on all areas of the body, including any scarring that remains, can be improved with our acne treatment system.
A few different types of acne exist, measured by their severity:
Mild acne – includes whiteheads, blackheads, as well as pustules. Cystic and nodular acne are more severe and cause small, painful lumps under the skin, which often leave red marks.

Why do we Get Acne?

The number one reason people get acne is puberty. The fluctuations in hormone levels can wreak havoc on your skin.
Other causes include, but aren’t limited to the menstrual cycle, menopause, genetics, and certain types of hormone based medication, especially birth control pills.

Acne and Self Image

For many people, even a mild case of acne can lead to depression. The way we look and the way others see us, are important factors in our self image and self-esteem. In the desire to alleviate the problem as quickly as possible, we sometimes employ an immediate solution which involves popping. Unfortunately, this can often make acne worse, and increases the likelihood of scarring.
Thanks to advances in cosmetic technology, getting rid of acne isn’t as difficult as it once was. This type of treatment will alleviate acne and improve your skin, and help to restore your self image and self esteem.

How to Treat Acne on the back

Acne on the back is quite common in both men and women, and if it’s severe enough, it can lead to a fear of exposing your back in social or intimate situations. Acne on the back should be treated just like acne on the face, as they share the same cause which is overactive sebum production and clogged pores. Our acne treatment can be effective in fighting acne on the back, shoulders and chest as well. In addition, if acne in any of those locations has resulted in scarring, our acne treatment may help to reduce the visibility of those scars. After our acne treatment is completed you should be able to enjoy a day at the beach or pool in your swimsuit without any embarrassment.

How is Acne Scar Removal Performed?

In some cases your adolescent or adult acne can clear up thanks to your diligent skin care regimen. However, you may still have a reminder of that condition in the form of acne scarring. Some acne scars can fade on their own over time and some scars may be small and barely noticeable, but there are many cases where the acne is highly visible, and even appear as pockmarks or depressions in the skin. This type of scarring creates an uneven skin surface, and can sometimes also cause discoloration of the skin called hyperpigmentation, which only draws more attention to the scarring. Whether your acne scars are small or prominent, our acne treatment can help remove scars. At Midtown Skin Studio, we use Morpheus8 to perform acne treatment and acne scar removal. This gentle technology stops acne bacteria in its tracks. It not only destroys the bacteria that causes acne while ablating the skin tissue, but it also shrinks and eventually shuts down the oil glands that are found just below the surface of the skin making it so that the entire process that causes acne in the first place is halted before it even starts. Morpheus8 is super effective for acne scarring and all kinds of scars. Because Morpheus8 is a microneedling treatment, it makes tiny abrasions in your skin in order to stimulate a wound healing response that gets your body to produce collagen and elastin, and to turn over new healthy skin cells. It significantly heals and reduces the appearance of scars and any other textural irregularities. Treatment with this device is virtually painless, and requires no anesthesia, and no downtime afterward.

Types of Acne Scarring

Acne sometimes results in one of two types of scars: atrophic and hypertophic.

Atrophic Acne Scarring

This type of scarring can be broken down into five general subcategories:
Depressed Fibrotic Scars: Large depressions in the skin that sometimes appear jagged.
Ice Pick Scars: A milder version of depressed fibrotic scars. The depression in the skin is smaller, but just as deep. They are the most common type of acne scar, and may lead to depressed fibrotic scars
Soft Scars: Smaller than most acne scars, they’re usually round or appear as lines that meld into the surrounding skin.
Atrophic Macules: These appear as purplish or bluish spots, generally fading into a shade paler than the surrounding skin. They may grow to more than a centimeter in diameter.
Perifollicular Elastolysis Scars: Also known as follicular macular atrophy, they are small, raised lesions. They look a lot like underdeveloped whiteheads.

Hypertrophic Acne Scarring

This occurs when an excess amount of collagen is produced, leading to the formation of large growths on the skin. These become what are known as keloid scars. Hypertrophic scarring is the less common form of acne scarring.

More about the technology we use to treat acne: Morpheus8 For Acne

What is Morpheus8?
Morpheus8 is an advanced RF microneedling (radiofrequency microneedling) treatment. Micro needles penetrate the skin’s surface, creating micro-channels or micro-wounds which trigger the body’s natural healing process and production of new collagen. Collagen is a protein that gives the skin elasticity and firmness. The addition of RF technology in the microneedles tightens existing collagen fibers and encourages tissue regeneration for deeper rejuvenation. Renewed tissues and new collagen growth resurface the skin and improve moderate to severe wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, rough texture, and more.
How Does Morpheus8 Work for Acne Treatment?
RF energy generates heat that kills acne-causing bacteria and shrinks overactive sweat glands, similar to its skin-tightening effect. When the size of the oil glands is reduced, they cannot form as much oil and it’s less likely that your pores will be clogged. You can expect less frequent and less severe future breakouts with just a few Morpheus8 treatments.
How Does Morpheus8 Help Treat Acne Scars? The skin-healing and tightening abilities of Morpheus8 also make it a great treatment for acne scarring. As collagen production increases, new, healthy skin cells will resurface, essentially covering up acne scars and other skin imperfections. Patients can improve their acne breakouts and also enjoy smoother, more radiant skin.
What to Expect from Morpheus8 Acne Treatment
Although many patients see significant improvements after one hour-long Morpheus8 session, it can take 3 to 4 treatments for optimal results. These treatments will be scheduled about four to six weeks apart to give your skin time to heal between treatments. The number of recommended treatments for your individual plan will depend on the severity of your acne and how well your skin responds to treatment. You will be able to determine how many treatments you need during a consultation with one of our specialists.
Although Morpheus8 treatment has minimal pain, we apply a topical numbing cream prior to your treatment to enhance your comfort during treatment.
