Lip Fillers Maple Ridge - Lip Enhancement and Augmenation

Maple Ridge Lip Injections and Lip Fillers - Enhance Lips

As time passes and you age, your lips may begin losing volume which causes them to appear thin. However, individuals who desire fuller lips now have a good option called lip augmentation with FDA-approved dermal fillers. Dermal fillers that have been approved by the FDA for use as a filler for the lips may also be referred to as lip fillers. Besides being ideal for use as lip fillers, at Midtown Skin Studio in Maple Ridge, we also use dermal fillers to reduce the signs of aging.

What Can Lip Fillers Accomplish?

Lip fillers can be used to add volume to the lips and results are immediate. Once a lip injection procedure with lip fillers is completed, patients will have plumper and more voluptuous lips.

Who Should Consider Lip Filler Injections?

Anyone with naturally thin lips who would like a fuller more voluptuous pout should consider having lip fillers injected. In addition, if you enjoyed fuller lips during your youth and you notice that they are starting to thin, our Lip Filler Specialists can easily restore that lost volume with a lip filler.

Who Should Not Consider Having a Lip Augmentation Enhancement?

Safety is extremely important, for this reason, patients who should not consider a lip augmentation with Revanesse® and Stylage® products include those who:
  • are allergic to the gram-positive bacterial proteins that are used to make the hyaluronic acid.
  • have allergies that lead to severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
  • are allergic to the numbing agent lidocaine (aka lignocaine and xylocaine).
  • are prone to bleeding.
  • have a bleeding disorder.

What Should I ask My Lip Filler Specialist During the Consultation at Midtown Skin Studio in Maple Ridge?

Dermal fillers can also be used to address a host of issues unrelated to aging. The following improvements can be made to your appearance using dermal fillers:

Some common questions include:

How many syringes of lip fillers will be necessary to achieve the lip enhancement results you desire?

May I see some before-and-after photos of patients who had lip enhancement procedures with Revanesse® and Stylage®?

If you choose to have lip enhancement injections with lip fillers, ask about pre-treatment recommendations.

What Does My Lip Filler Specialist Need to Know About Me?

During your consultation, you need to be prepared to provide your Lip Filler Specialist with:
  • a list of your current medications (prescription and over the counter), vitamins and herbal supplements. If you take multi-vitamins or any other types of medications, please write them down.
  • information related to any drug allergies or if you are allergic to latex, please let your Lip Filler Specialist know
  • your medical history: This information should include surgical procedures, treatments, chronic conditions (e.g., anxiety disorder, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.).

Your Maple Ridge Lip Filler Specialist also needs to know if you:

  • have an injury near the injection area. Unless the procedure is rescheduled until the injury heals, your chances of experiencing side effects will increase.
  • are on medications for immunosuppressive therapy or if you take blood thinners (e.g., warfarin, aspirin, etc.). These medications can increase the likelihood of bleeding or bruising at the lip filler injection areas.
  • are taking Advil, Aleve, Excedrin or Ibuprofen. These medications must be discontinued for at least a week prior to your lip injection procedure.
  • have a history of scarring or pigmentation disorders, please let your Lip Filler Specialist know. In addition, if you are planning to have laser treatment or chemical peel after receiving your Maple Ridge lip filler injections, you should ask your Lip Filler Specialist how long you need to wait. Otherwise, there is an increased risk of inflammation following these kinds of treatments.
  • are pregnant, breastfeeding or attempting to become pregnant. The safety of dermal filler injections during pregnancy or while breast feeding has yet to be determined.
  • are experiencing any type of skin problem in the areas being treated. These problems may include cold sores, rashes, cysts, or pimples, which can be located in or around the mouth area. Lip filler injections should be postponed until the problem dissipates otherwise healing may be delayed or the skin problem being experienced might worsen.
  • are prone to cold sores (aka facial herpes simplex). Your Lip Filler Specialist can prescribe medication to prevent such an outbreak following treatment with lip fillers.

How Long Does a Lip Injection Procedure Take?

A lip injection procedure with Revanesse® and Stylage® is relatively short, lasting from 30 to 60 minutes.

Do Injections with Lip Fillers Hurt?

Since we use a topical anesthetic and all the dermal fillers we use contain lidocaine, most patients experience very little discomfort during the injection process.

The Lip Injection Procedure

After you arrive at Midtown Skin Studio for your lip injection consultation, you will meet with a Lip Filler Specialist to assess your overall health and suitability for the procedure, and to discuss your goals and expectations for lip enhancement. During this initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to tell us what you are hoping to achieve with lip augmentation and your Lip Filler Injector will evaluate you for the procedure once they understand your goals and provide you more information to help you make your decision.

Prior to beginning the lip injection procedure, your Lip Filler Specialist will use a topical anesthetic to numb your lips. It takes about 20 minutes for this anesthetic to reach its full potential. Once the numbing agent takes effect, the lip enhancement procedure will begin.

Besides the topical anesthetic, all of the fillers we use contain the numbing agent lidocaine. This ensures that patients remain comfortable throughout their lip enhancement procedure.

Your Lip Filler Specialist chooses the injection points. Antiseptic is applied. The dermal filler is carefully injected into the lip. The hyaluronic acid adheres to the skin. The water contained in the hyaluronic acid assists in volume retention beneath the skin’s surface. Since water is naturally drawn to hyaluronic acid, this renewed lip volume is preserved.

You will be able to leave directly after your lip enhancement procedure. In fact, most of our patients return to their everyday activities immediately after their lip filler treatments.

When Will the Results be Visible?

While changes are visible directly following treatment, full results will not be evident for about a week.

The “vermilion border,” the sharp line between the lips and the surrounding skin is the typical area that is enhanced using lip injections with dermal fillers. By injecting a dermal filler into this part of the lips, it is possible for the Lip Filler Injector to shape, define, and fill out the lips. It is also possible to enhance the “cupid’s bow,” the v-shaped area in the center of the lip, using dermal fillers to make the “v” shape more pronounced.

How Long is the Recovery Period Following Lip Filler Injections?

Directly following lip filler injections, patients should expect to experience swelling. This swelling only lasts for a few days. Typically, lipstick easily covers any bruises that appear on the lips.

Patients should avoid touching their lips for 48 hours. In addition, exercise should be avoided for a few days because it speeds up the blood flow.

If you notice symptoms that seem abnormal, progressive or you experience unmanageable pain, contact the office right away.

How Long Will My Lip Enhancement Results Last?

The length of time the results attained from a lip injection procedure lasts varies. Please speak to your Lip Filler Specialist for more information regarding length of time results last.

What Lip Filler Products Are Available at the Midtown Skin Studio in Maple Ridge?

We frequently use the Revanesse® and Stylage® product lines when performing lip injection procedures at our clinic in Maple Ridge. All the lip fillers used for lip augmentation from this product line consist of hyaluronic acid.

Stylage® is a highly advanced temporary hyaluronic acid dermal filler with antioxidants. It offers a natural but rich solution for a range of beauty concerns.

Revanesse® is a temporary hyaluronic acid dermal filler that provides amazing, hydrating, and long-lasting natural results.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within the human body. HYALURONIC ACID helps the skin retain moisture, which adds to its volume and aids in maintaining softer, more youthful-looking skin, and plumper-looking lips. Hyaluronic acid also promotes the production of collagen. At Midtown Skin Studio in Maple Ridge, BC, we offer a variety of lip fillers that consist of HA.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is responsible for giving skin its elasticity. As we age, it is natural for our collagen production to slow down: This decrease in collagen production leads to less-resilient skin. However, as the hyaluronic acid boosts the production of collagen, the skin’s elasticity increases, and wrinkles become less apparent. In addition, collagen naturally adds volume to the lips.

Traditional Fillers vs. Resilient Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

The difference between traditional fillers and Rhyaluronic Acid fillers is that resilient hyaluronic acid fillers have the ability to recoil and then spring back to their initial form. For example, after being bent, stretched, compressed, or altered during facial expressions, they bounce back to their original shape. These resilient HYALURONIC ACID fillers deliver a very natural-looking result. In addition, resilient hyaluronic acid fillers take longer for the body to metabolize; therefore, the patient enjoys longer lasting results than those that are typically seen with traditional dermal fillers.

Since hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and lip fillers promote the production of collagen, many patients require less product on follow-up visits.

What Side Effects are Possible Following Injections with Lip Fillers?

Patients typically experience swelling following injection treatments with lip fillers; therefore, patients should schedule their first treatment at least 72 hours before any type of important social event.

Following lip injections with lip fillers, some of the most common side effects include tenderness at the area of the injection, bleeding from the injection area, redness, bruising and inflammation. These symptoms usually resolve within a few days.

Recognizing More Serious Side Effects Following Injections with Lip Fillers

As with any procedure, complications are possible. While complications following lip injections are rare, addressing this topic is essential to ensure our patients know what could indicate a serious side effect.

Symptoms to watch for that indicate a more serious complication include:

  • irregularities or lumps in the lips
  • Severe prolonged bruising or swelling (lasting from a week to 10 days)
  • scarring, stiffening or ulceration of the lip
  • infection
  • lips appear disproportionate
  • an allergic reaction (itching, swelling and/or redness around the lips)
  • if the product is injected into a blood vessel, tissue loss is probable
  • if a patient experiences extreme swelling and/or develops a fever, the patient needs to contact our office right away

How do I Maintain My Lips?

As time passes, the results attained with lip fillers diminishes; however, additional injections can be performed intermittently to maintain the results achieved. Results attained from a lip injection procedure can last anywhere from 2 to 10 months: Since the longevity of these dermal fillers varies greatly, each patient may obtain a different result. Therefore, follow-up lip injection procedures are determined based on a patient’s overall lip injection results.

What If I Am Not Happy with the Lip Enhancement Results?

Although uncommon, in the event that a patient is displeased with the results attained through the injection of lip fillers, options are available.

The approach used depends on a variety of factors, including:
  • the results a patient desires
  • the nature and severity of the problem
  • the type of lip filler that was initially injected

Addressing Problems Following a Lip Augmentation

Massaging the Lips

Slight asymmetry or moderate lumpiness can be addressed by massaging the lips. However, the proper technique must be utilized; therefore, patients should contact the office at 416.546.5200 and make an appointment to learn the proper lip massage technique.

Removal of Hyaluronic Acid Lip Fillers in Maple Ridge

Products that consist of HYALURONIC ACID can be removed either completely or just partially with hyaluronidase. This enzyme dissolves the hyaluronic acid particles.

Issues that hyaluronidase can address include:

  • an irregular or lumpy texture (that neglects to respond to massage).
  • prolonged or excessive inflammation.
  • infection within the treatment area.
  • lips that appear ‘overfilled.’
  • vascular compromise caused by the filler being injected extremely close to a blood vessel, causing interference with the natural blood flow. When a qualified, experienced injector performs the lip injection procedure, a vascular compromise is extremely unlikely.

How Much Do Lip Injections with Lip Fillers in Maple Ridge Cost?

Lip fillers are priced by the syringe. At your initial consultation, you will be provided with the actual cost of your Lip Filler injection based on the assessment.
