Midtown Skin Studio is proud to offer a new, cutting-edge treatment called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) that harnesses the body’s own natural growth properties to boost collagen production, minimize pigmentation, ease inflammation, and help your skin regain its luminosity and youthful appearance. PRP will improve skin quality and smooth fine lines of the face, hands and neck area. Patients will notice an improvement in puffiness and darkness under the eyes. Overall the skin will appear more youthful, tighter, and with an improved skin tone. PRP treatment is ideal for individuals that are searching for a natural improvement in their appearance.
PRP is concentrated with platelets from your own blood. Platelets are a naturally occurring substance in your blood that plays an essential role in clotting. As a concentrated source of autologous platelets, PRP contains several growth factors and other cytokines that stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue, including the skin. PRP stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, as well as new blood vessel formation, which works to improve the overall tone and texture of the skin.
PRP treatments can be used not only on the face, neck. chest, and backs of hands, but also other areas of the body demonstrating signs of skin aging. It is also used for hair restoration and as a therapy for injuries.
On the day of the PRP treatments, the first step will be drawing some of your blood, typically from the arm, just as would normally be done by your primary care physician to perform blood tests. The blood is then processed in a sterile centrifuge, a rapidly spinning piece of machinery that separates the blood into its different components, one of which will be platelet rich plasma. This PRP is then injected into the selected treatment areas using an advanced injection device. The use of this advanced injection device allows for a relatively painless treatment that does not require a topical anesthetic.
PRP is used for hair loss treatment and is ideal for treating male pattern hair loss, in addition to female pattern hair loss or other facial hair loss. See our PRP Hair Loss Treatment page for more information on how PRP is used to treat hair loss.
